Rabelo Boat, Traditional Douro Vessel (Portugal)
The Rabelo boat is a historic vessel native to Porto and the Douro River in Portugal, traditionally used to transport barrels of Port wine from the vineyards of the Douro Valley to the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Widely used between the 18th and early 20th centuries, these boats were specially designed to navigate the strong currents and narrow passages of the river.
With its flat bottom, large rudder, and distinctive square sail, the Rabelo became an essential part of Portugal’s wine trade and remains an iconic symbol of the Douro region’s heritage.
Each piece is carefully handcrafted, capturing the character and historical importance of this unique vessel.
